Nutritional Yeast (aka nooch) is one of my favorite seasonings to top off literally any food I am eating. It has a cheesy/nutty vibe and it is good and good for you! So here’s a little blurb on why we should all be eating and loving the nooch.
So, what is it? Nutritional yeast is a dead form of the yeast strain known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This is the same strain of yeast bakers use to make bread rise, but it has been pasteurized to dry out the yeast in order to extract its nutritional benefits. A tablespoon of nutritional yeast has just 20 calories but still packs about 3 grams of protein per serving. Nooch is also a great way to add a savory kick that doesn’t contain any sodium. And if you still aren’t sold, a lot of brands are fortified with vitamin B12, an essential vitamin that promotes a healthy immune system and prevents against anemia. Since B12 is typically found in animal products, if you are vegan or vegetarian nooch has your back.
And what do I use it on? Everything!! You can use it the same way you would grated cheese. On top of pasta, beans, roasted veggies, popcorn, the choices are endless.
